Focusing on carrying out the third round of the Three-Year Action Programme and on achieving the target of saving energy and reducing pollutants discharge, the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau organized and conducted 33 research projects such as ¡°Research on Building Shanghai into a National Model City for Environmental Protection¡±, ¡°Research of the Technology for Making a General Survey of Pollution Sources in Shanghai¡± and ¡°The Green Guide for the 2010 World Expo¡±.? 16 research subjects, including ¡°Research of the Technology for Evaluating the Pollutants Discharge by the Industries in Shanghai¡± and ¡°Action Programme of Controlling the Pollution of Motor Vehicles in Shanghai During the Period of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan¡±,were completed and their results were checked, approved and registered item by item.? Two research projects undertaken by Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences, ¡°Early-Warning and Forecasting System for Unexpected Accidents of Water Pollution in the Huangpu River¡± and ¡°Application and Demonstration of Soil Bioengineering in the Ecological Restoration along the Sloping Banks of River Courses¡±, have won the Second and the Third Shanghai Municipal Awards for Advances in Science and Technology.
The pilot studies and demonstration of circular economy were progressing actively.? As marked progress has been made in Shanghai Chemical Industrial Zone, one of the first pilot zones, Shanghai Xinzhuang Industrial Zone, Baoshan Steel and Iron Co. Ltd, and Weixiang (China) Co. Ltd were listed among the second batch of national pilot zones.? The pilot studies and demonstration of circular economy at the municipal level has been formally initiated.
